Introduction

Welcome to the Conservation section of the website. Within these pages, you will find ideas you can implement within your own living spaces, thoughts to consider before you purchace, and a general awareness of the complex nature of mans impact on the enviroment around us and little things an indivdual can implement on their own to lessen the impact of our "footprints".

Growing up on a small farm in the 1970s allowed me to watch many changes in the concepts people held about the lands around them. The farm which bordered our southern property line was owned and operated by 2 brothers and their sister. These people took care of each other while raising crops and animals, and gathering natures bounty as their sole method of income.

Listening to short stories about what the area was like when they moved there in 1937 and compared to that time in the '70s, as the headlines in the news broadcast glaring examples of our degradation of the lands around us, influencing the passage of the Clean Air/Clean Water Act. These old people taught my parents (city folk) new to the country, many tricks of the trade to allow them to learn how to survive.

Contrasting this example was the farm which bordered our western property line. This was a larger dairy farm which raised most of the grains and hays needed to supply their herd. Farm hands were hired to help with the operations and via their practices, I learned much about the go forth and conquer attitudes of some farms and I was able to watch as another neighbor influenced these long held ideas and helped convert the thoughts and practices of this particular farm into a more compatable environment for the future sucess and long term health of the area.
