This Tiger beetle was located along a fire break road. There were many Tiger Beetles dodging our approach and flying away from our footsteps and the Cicindela repanda was the most common of those. The Common Shore Beetle (Cicindela repanda) appears in large numbers in multiple areas of Crex Meadows.
The sun allowed for more colors to show through on this mostly brown Tiger beetle. On cloudy days, its shell would be brown colored.
This is a dry habitat species and is found anywhere sands are exposed near waters in Crex Meadows.
The Cicindela repanda is the only Tiger beetle reported to eat some fruits along with its typical insect prey.
The Cicindela repanda passes its first winter as a third instar larvae and hibernates as an adult in its second winter.
