Wing span: Wing span: 1 1/3 - 1 1/2 inches.

Caterpillar hosts: Many grasses and rushes.

First and fourth stage caterpillars hibernate in mats of dead grass.

Habitat: Grassy, open areas such as fields, meadows, grasslands, and tundra.

Coloring on the Common Ringlet can vary widely in any location. Some may not have the upper wing dark spot, others can others may show multiple eye-spots. Specimens may also vary in red tones even showing only grey coloring.
