Acadian Hairstreak

Satyrium acadica

acadian pair

These two fresh Acadian Hairstreaks were spotted on July 9, 2008.

This was the first time I have seen this type of Hairstreak in Crex Meadows.

These two were together on the same Butterfly weed along Phantom Lake Road.

There seems to be a slight variation in orange coloring on the lower wing, almost reaching a red on the one to the right.

The tan tint is a reflection from the butterfly weed. The primary wing color of this type of Hairstreak is a gray.

The Acadian Hairstreak picture to the left is a better representation of the wing colors of this butterfly.

The Acadian Hairstreak to the left is the same as the one on the left from the above picture.
