The leaves are thick and deep green. The shape of these leaves can very from rounded to the point at the end to almost arrowhead shaped. The plant is pretty low varied between 6 - 12 inches in height off the water.
The plant itself is considered very poisonous. Some reports indicate the rhizome is edible after considerable preparations, but I would advise no one to try to manipulate this plant into an edible condition.
