Introduction

Welcome to the Crex Meadows section of this website! Crex Meadows is a Wildlife Management Area located in western Wisconsin in an area known locally as 'the Barrens'. The nearest town is Grantsberg Wisconsin around 1 mile south of the begining of the meadows.

Friends introduced me to the meadows in 1988 or so, and quickly, the Meadows became my favorite bird watching area.

History and Management

There are several pages covering some of the aspects of Crex Meadows and it history and management over the years since its begining.

A good starting point is Crex Info which is a page covering the history and management practices. This is an overview of the efforts and more details can be obtained by stopping in at the Visitor Center at Crex Meadows.

Plants and Flowers is a small section trying to cover the vegetation on Crex Meadows. This is a huge project that is also being covered in depth by Kim and Alan, people who are often found volunteering at the Crex Meadows Visitor Center. They have put together a small and very useful field guide to the Wildflowers of Crex and surrounding areas.
